NOA WINTER GARDEN BIRD SURVEY

PLEASE FOLLOW THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY

•  WHAT TO COUNT: Please only record birds IN your garden, not simply flying over or visible from it. Birds perching on your garden boundary should be included.

•  HOW TO COUNT: Please record the highest number of birds seen in your garden AT ANY ONE TIME during the week. If you cannot count exact numbers please use the following codes: 1-10 = 1+, 11-20 = 11+, 21-30 = 21+, 31-40 = 31+ etc. The more accurate you can be, the more meaningful the final statistics.

•  WHEN TO WATCH: Week 1 Begins on Sunday 23 rd November 2008, and week 17 ends on Saturday 21 st March 2009.

  1. TIME SPENT OBSERVING: To help us calculate observer hours, in the table below, please give an estimate of the number of hours per week during which you have been able to observe birds in your garden, and at what time of the day:

Processing raw data in large quantities is very time consuming. Please help us by adding the number of weeks that you have seen each species and putting the number in column A (e.g., if you have seen Blackbirds in your garden every week of the survey, write 17 in the Column A opposite Blackbird) and the total number of each species seen during the survey and putting the number in Column B (e.g. if you have seen 2 Blackbirds for 15 weeks, write 30 in Column B opposite Blackbird)
